Nutrition and Detox Diet
The importance of proper nutrition in healing—and maintaining health—cannot be overstated enough in discussing the healing process in general and specifically while working with Plant Medicines. There is a proverb in Ayurvedic medicine, one of the oldest holistic healing systems in the world, highlighting this importance: “When diet is wrong, medicine is of no use; when diet is correct, medicine is of no need.” This ancient proverb emphasizes the reality that the majority of physical and emotional illnesses can be directly related to two factors—toxicity and deficiency.
The human organism is a remarkable creation designed to heal itself, given the proper functioning of organs and adequate absorption of nutrients. Detoxification is necessary because the common consumption of junk food, drugs, alcohol, or other toxic substances so prevalent in our modern world, all impair and interfere with the body’s ability to effectively digest, process, and assimilate nutrition and plant medicines. Detoxification and re-nourishment with a healthy, balanced diet restore homeostasis and stimulate healing of the body.
At Pisatahua we follow a traditional ayahuasca diet, while maximizing taste and nutritional value. When dieting plant medicines, the healer may choose for a highly restrictive approach. Each healer has their own method and we ask all guests to contact us to inquire about the specific dietary approach for their retreat.
Generally speaking we provide our guests with fresh-organic-food. We never provide packaged, canned or processed foods. We avoid any simple sugars, hydrogenated oils or processed grains. Our food is “real” and locally sourced. We place special emphasis on raw fruits, vegetables and juices – since cooking can destroy enzymes that help digestion. For fish-eaters, we serve fresh-fish from the Aquicuana Lake. We incorporate healthy fats through nuts and seeds. Additionally, we provide filtered water to all guests in their rooms and common areas.
We recommend guests follow the ayahuasca preperation diet for a minimum of 5 days prior to arrival. Please inform us if you have any food allergies or special dietary restrictions. We can accommodate most any need.
